April 24, 2017 (Julian 114)

Today has a clear cut message: pay attention to details.  Retrograde Mercury tells us that as it trines Retrograde Saturn.  Despite the fact that Saturn is a malefic, this is a favorable aspect most of the time for most people IF you are willing to heed the message and do the work.  Both are in fire signs, so fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) are affected most followed by air signs (Libra, Aquarius, and Gemini).  For some people, they will find lost ojects, and this will be an important turn of events.  Everybody, regardless of sign, can benefit by “taking care of business” today.

Outers are relatively quiet again, with   Saturn quincunx Vesta is the loudest voice of the group, and that signals a conflict or misunderstanding between one side that is related to religion, higher education, or law and the other side which is focused on family traditions.  Neither side can “win” here, so walk away from any disputes of the sort.

April 23, 2017 (Julian 113)

We think today is particularly interesting because of this article about Venus as Inanna at the First Gate.  It means the otherwise relatively ordinary conjuniction of the Moon with Venus in Pisces takes on a special meaning, a turning point of some kind.  We also note that the Presidential Election in France is today.  About 4:30 PM CDT Moon in Pisces turns v/c until it enters Aries about 7:30 PM CDT.  The void of course period begins after this “First Gate” has been touched or opened.

Much earlier in the day, about 3 AM CDT (and probably about 10 AM in France), Mars (Gemini) is sesquiquadrate Jupiter (Libra). and “things” (people) can become unpleasant because of a belief that “something must be done about it.”  Will France elect Marine Le Pen president?

Moon joins Chiron about 2:30 PM CDT (the Wounded Healer, in Pisces, takes the spotlight), and an hour later Moon squares Saturn (in Sadge).  Religion and issues of belief can take center stage, and chances are good that “things” are not very pleasant.  Will we see riots?

Outers: Mars Triseptiles Saturn, and karma is very definitely in play today.  Please do note that this involves Mars (the “lesser malefic”) and Saturn (the “greater malefic”).  Again, “things” could turn ugly.  Saturn quincunx Ceres is a similar amplifier of unpleasentness.  This is a difficult day.

For most people, this is a “day off,” and that is a GREAT use of this day.  The triseptiles tell us that we are wise to help someone less fortunate than ourselves, done anonymously and with no thought of compensation in the future.  After Moon moves into Aries, SOME useful work can be accomplished if that is necessary, but still do avoid fruitless conflicts.

April 22, 2017 (Julian 112)

Mercury semi-squares Neptune giving creatives a peculiar sense of urgency.  At 3PM CDT Moon joins Neptune, amplifying the effect and bringing confusion to those not involved in a creative effort.  The rest of the lunar aspects are two semi-squares and a quincunx at 8 PM CDT.  Not all blind dates are disappointments, but the one tonight is likely to be so.  “Things” and people will be other than as expected.

This is not the best day to sign a contract.

The outers are not mute but are relatively quiet.  Mars / Uranus decile about 1:30 PM CDT brings accidents to some and mildly useful insights to others.  Jupiter biquintile White Moon Selena brings an insight or bright idea to a few.

Cafe’ Asrrology says, about this day, that “we may simply need a break from hard thinking and should do so if it can be managed.”  We agree.

April 21, 2017 (Julian 111)

Yesterday I forgot to address something important.  April 20th is the anniversary of Adolph Hitler’s birth in 1889.  Few historical figures can generate the kinds of reactions that Hitler can.  In keeping with my basic idea that astrology is not about “fate” but about “tendencies” and “opportunities” and “windows,” I would like to take a moment to make a few points from my vantage point.

  1. At least a few people have argued that Hitler was “created” by circumstances, especially the harsh treatment of Germany after World War I.  (I first heard this idea promulgated in a history class.)  The idea is simple: if Germany had not been treated so harshly, then the economic climate would not have been ripe for the rise to power of a dictator like Hitler.  (Maybe Ernst Rohm?  Would a gay Sagittarius Nazi have been as bad as Hitler?  We will never know.)
  2. If #1 is true, then it is possible, maybe even likely, that some other dictator would have risen to power in these circumstances.  He might not have been as bad as Hitler.  Or, as inconceivable as it sounds, he might have been worse.
  3. If #1 and #2 are true, then this begs a rather interesting question: if Hitler’s life had been ever so slightly different, or if Germany had not been in such dire straights, what might have happened with Hitler?

Before I go any further, let me point this out: Hitler set in motion a number of atrocities.  I am not making an apology for him.  And, Grant Lewi (now long deceased) was highly influential on me as an astrologer.  Indeed, much of what I know about Saturn comes from Lewi and his analysis of Hitler in “Astrology for the Millions.”  Lewi treated Hitler’s life as inevitable, but I am not absolutely convinced of that because I believe that individuals have free will even if collectives, paradoxically, do not.  (And, they don’t.)

The solution to this “paradox” is that collective have roles (more like “holes”) in them that some individual, from a pool of individuals, will inevitably fill.  And, I think that is what happened with Hitler: he filled a “hole” in the fabric of post World War I Germany that gave rise to Nazi Germany.  Lewi points out that “conquestial dictators” like Hitler (or Napoleon) are usually fixed signs (respectively Taurus and Leo).

(This seems to ignore Stalin the Sagittarius, but then Stalin was not a conquestial dictator.  (However, this source claims Stalin was responsible for 40 million deaths, dwarfing Hitler’s six million Jews.  They were both unspeakably evil.  And, opinions vary about numbers and details.  And, one more.  I believe Stalin killed more, and here is why: Stalin operated, unopposed, over a much longer period of time.)

Given that Rohm was a Sadge (and a better trained soldier), maybe he might not have moved quite as quickly as Hitler did.  And, just maybe, a slower pace might have given Germany the time they needed to build nukes… …a very different timeline, indeed.)

With that in mind, and before I give today’s forecast, I offer the following possibilities.

  1. A number of people have offered that if “things” had been a little different, a number of historical figures would not have risen to prominence and would have died in obscurity.  The two that I recall are (1) Adolph Hitler (dying as a petty criminal) and (2) Malcolm X (also dying as a petty criminal if he had not converted to Islam).  I am sure this is likely with others as well.  (Possibly Nelson Mandela?  Unsure.)  That is, if something involving Hitler’s time in prison / writing “Mein Kampf” had differed even slightly, things might have been very different for him.  (More time in prison (shifting the timeline) or maybe no prison time (eliminating the motive and opportunity to write “Mein Kampf”) or ?)
  2. If somehow the timeline shifted slightly before his birth, and he had been tagged with the name “Schiklgruber” instead of “Hitler.”  (For more, see here (and numerous other sources).)  As a number have written before me, imagining millions of German shouting “Heil Schicklgruber” is very nearly comic.  And as others have written before me, I will say that it just would not have happened.  His name would have been wrong, and he would NOT have risen to power.  I still think the Nazi party, or its equivalent, would have crystallized around some other human crystal, er, “leader,” but not “Adolph Schicklgruber.”
  3. If he had been accepted to art school.  Others have also made this speculation.  Even if he proved to be a crappy artist and were later kicked out, it would have changed the timeline enough that he would not have been part of the “Beer Hall Putsch” or gone to prison or written “Mein Kampf” or… …you get the picture.  Different timeline = no Adolf Hitler as “der Fuhrer.”
  4. From here, I would have to dive into a deep dive into Hitler’s natal chart and life events to see where the other breakpoints are in his timeline.  But, I am fairly certain they are there.

Which brings us back to our regularly scheduled program and YOU.  Astrology, in my opinion, is NOT FATE.  It involves many timelines, some more probable and others less probable, but all contingent on our decisions when presented different “windows of opportunity.”  Almost every day (if not EVERY day), you are presented with opportunities to “change the road you are on” (stealing from “Stairway to Heaven”).  Maybe today is one of those days?

The big news for today is (1) Mars moves into Gemini and (2) Venus squares Saturn.  Regarding the Mars move into Gemini, 5D Astrology has a superb piece on that, and we do not think we can do better.  We recommend you read that.  Regarding Venus square Saturn, We wrote a piece on this type of aspect in 2015.  For many people it is a tough aspect, and this one hits any late mutables hard (Gemini about June 15th or later, Virgo about September 15th or later, Sagittarius about December 14th or later, and Pisces about March 15th or later).  Late Scorpio or late Cancer will also feel it to some degree.  Late Aries or late Leo might also feel it.  Smartest use for this kind of thing is to review your budget and finances get those kinds of things in order.  One thing that can prosper here: “May-December” romances (old + young).”  Just do not kidnap anyone underage and flee out of state.  (That would be a bad idea under any set of aspects.)

Lunar aspects are fairly ordinary.  Moon in late Aquarius turns void a bit past 1 PM CDT and moves into Pisces by 3 PM CDT.  Accomplish what you can before the void and take a break, if at all possible, for the rest of the day.  Watch your temper about 3 PM CDT (or avoid over-doing it if you are exercising) and finish business that you must finish, deferring the rest to another day.

Outers are moderately busy with the main punctuation mark being Mars square North Node.  Again, avoid unnecessary quarrels or overdoing it, but do know that an important message will come to you about some conflict today.

April 20, 2017 (Julian 110)

April 20, 2017 (Julian 110)

Pluto stations retrograde today, and that is the headline news.  Matters involving death, taxes, investigations, homicides, and power structures bear deeper scrutiny at this time.  Certain secrets come to light.  Aries / Cancer / Libra / Capricorn (Cardinal Signs) are affected the most, but so are Taurus and Virgo.  Others tend to be bystanders or have reduced roles (unless you have a number of Cardinal planets in your natal chart).

Sun is in Taurus, Moon is in Aquarius (and Last Quarter), and (as we mentioned) Pluto stations retrograde today.  Mercury joins the Sun about 1 AM CDT.  Moon perfects semi-squares to Chiron and Venus (both in Pisces) in the early morning hours and some of us have a sense of urgency involving health, beauty, or maybe finances.  This is a great day for “home cleanup” if that is an option for you; some will find important misplaced items (or ideas about misused resources that need to be re-allocated(.  Moon also perfects a semi-square to Jupiter at this time, amplifying this sense of urgency.  (For some this may involving educational matters.)

Retrograde Mercury is void since about 1 AM CDT until it moves into Aries shortly before 1 PM CDT.  One misplaced item might be found but another lost.  It all seems to madness.

However, near 2 PM CDT Moon (Aquarius) trines Jupiter (Libra) and most people gain something of benefit, particularly air and fire signs.  This can be a good time to apply for a job or, alternatively, to obtain a good deal on an important purchase.

Jupiter binoviles Vesta, and some of us have important insights involving the traditions of home and family.

April 19, 2017 (Julian 109)

April 19, 2017 (Julian 109)

Today is a day of shifts and changes.  About 5 AM CDT the Moon perfects a square to the Sun that begins the final quarter, the final week, before the New Moon in a week.  About an hour later, the Moon moves into Aquarius.

The Sun is void since yesterday morning, and continues void in late Aries until about 4:30 PM CDT today when it enters what horary astrolgers call the “too early to tell” period.  (That is, they refuse to read a chart in such a window because they say more important information will come about later.)

Fourth Quarter moons are mostly about cleaning and cleanup, and “too early to tell” periods are usually poor for launch new projects.  So are Mercury Retrogrades.  But you can “clean house” and Mercury Retrograde sometimes helps you find lost objects needed to restart old projects on hold.  With the Pluto Retrograde station tomorrow, we would recommend waiting until at least Friday or Saturday before you start something even if it needs to happen this week.

A number of novile-type aspects are present today, so you may have some bright ideas or insights, and retrograde Mercury conjuncts the Sun shortly past midnight.  Lilith is involved, so “wild sex” might somehow be part of it.  Try not to get into TOO much trouble.  I think SOME creatives, particularly those that work with nudes, might have an amazing evening.  But, do not sign any contracts today.

April 18, 2017 (Julian 108)

April 18, 2017 (Julian 108)

Moon squares Jupiter, touches Pluto, and squares Uranus over the course of the day, activating the Cardinal T-Square, Grand Cross if you count Vesta.  If you avoid pointless disputes, then you will have much energy to get things done.

This is the last full day of Sun in Aries.  If fire/air favor you, knock out everything you can today, else postpone until Friday or Saturday.  Wednesday, both Sun and Moon change signs, leaving a bit of a mess as far as getting things done goes. Thursday, Pluto stations retrograde.

Outers continue to be tricky to read, but Jupiter square Astraea is a bellwether of legal issues and maybe lawsuits for some.

April 17, 2017 (Julian 107)

April 17, 2017 (Julian 107)

This is the kind of day that is not clearly good or clearly bad but it is clearly about work and “getting things done” and almost no one is in the mood to play.  Sun trine Saturn is benevolent, sort of, even though Saturn is known as the “Greater Malefic.”  With Moon in Capricorn (Saturn’s home) almost no one has any sympathy for anyone else.  Few people, if anyone, can make excuses work today (even if they are valid!).  Mars (the “Lesser Malefic”) is in unsympathetic Taurus forming the unpleasant aspect called a “quincunx” (or “inconjunct”) with Saturn.  Neither can agree, and both effectively have a miscommunication or “misunderstanding” (all this with Mercury Retrograde!).

Moon forms a sesquiquadrate with Mars, amplifying the intensity of the quincunx, and forms a sextile to Neptune, bringing the confusion that Neptune brings into the muddled mix.  All of this occurs in the evening in the Western Hemisphere and early morning hours of Tuesday in the UK / EU and points east.

Outers are quite busy.  We have already mentioned Mars / Saturn, but Mars also forms a sesquiquadrate to Hygeia, bringing an urgency to health and healthcare issues (which may be the source of issues for a number of people this evening).  Pallas biquintiles the North Node, so some creative problem solving MIGHT help solve the issues of this evening.  Saturn also forms a biquintile, also adding to the possibility of a creative solution.

Staying home this evening and taking a break seems like a good idea, but this might be an evening where the problem(s) come and find you.

April 16, 2017 (Julian 106)

April 16, 2017 (Julian 106)

Easter is here (rather late this year), and Sun in Aries is nearly done.  For Christians, this is an important day for the faithful.  Sun moves into Taurus April 19th, Pluto stations retrograde April 20th, and a New Moon in Taurus greets us April 25th.

The Moon is EXTREMELY busy today, going void in Sagittarius when it joins Saturn about 1:30 PM CDT.  While Easter might be about mercy and benevolence and second chances (“rebirths”), Moon conjunct Saturn is anything but that, and both are in Sagittarius (the sign, among other things, of organized religion).  From 7 AM CDT to 11 PM CDT we have three lunar trines, and those help things at least a little.

Mars (Taurus) sextiles Venus and Chiron (both in Pisces), and this bodes well, EXTREMELY well, for creatives.  While this is typically a social day, if you are creative you might consider carving out a period of time where you can work alone (unless your creative work involves social events or others in some way).  This will be one of the better days this year for creative work.

Outers are nearly quiet and mostly benevolent EXCEPT for Juno novile Lilith which means that (curiously!) the wife and the mistress might meet and form an alliance.  While rare, such things do happen, and it is bad news for the philanderer.  The wife divorces the philandering spouse and takes the assets and becomes girlfriends with the mistress. While this will not apply to everyone, it will apply to some!  Given that Venus just moved Direct yesterday, this might be overdue!

We only have this to say:  Don’t be the philanderer!

April 15, 2017 (Julian 105)

April 15, 2017 (Julian 105)

No doubt you already know that the big news today, and really for the past few days leading up to today (and maybe a week or two after) is that Venus moves Direct.  Venus Retrograde is relatively rare (about every 18 months) and carves out, over time, a pentagram in the sky that gradually moves and shifts over the year.  Among other things, this pattern was featured as an important factoid in the bestseller “The Da Vinci Code.”

What is the message, and who does it affect?  Directly or indirectly, it affects all of us.  It particularly affects the water signs and anyone with water sign planets.  Additionally, anyone with a birthday in a late mutable sign (March 15th to the 21st, June 15th to the 21st, September 15th to the 21st, and December 15th to the 21st).  Please do note that your individual chart is necessary for a more precise forecast.  But, if your birthday is in one of these ranges, you probably need to take a hard look at Venusian topics: relationships (particularly the Virgo / Pisces birthdays), finances (investments in general and savings), and anything related to “beauty” whether your own personal physical appearance, your home, or maybe helping someone close to you in these matters.

Beyond that, we suggest you look at our posts on our new blog devoted to retrogrades: “Retrogrades Only.”  Here are some of the posts we have collected there via the reblog process:

Moon is busy with multiple aspects but we think the sesquiquadrates are most important given that Venus is stationary.  Three of these occur on April 15th: Moon to Uranus, Sun, and Mercury.  Focus yourself to take care of business related to transportation or communication (or computer) issues..

Outer Planets: Mars forms an undecile with Eris, and we think this is nearly impossible to interpret because (1) undeciles are a particularly abstract aspect (very subtle) and (2) Eris is new and not much work has been done in interpretation of Eris,  Our best interpretation is that a subtle idea will appear on how to deal with the chaos in your life, and the Moon says you really must get on top of things.  You must take action today.

‘Saturn makes a tri-undecile to Pallas, a little more easy to interpret but not much.  Our read is that practical ideas about how to handle the issues at hand will come to us, but we must choose to seize the moment today.  Missing the window will not destroy your life, but life will be much better if you do what it takes to clear up the stuck issues in your life today

Finally, Uranus perfects a semi-sextile to Ceres.  Again, we encounter surprises and unexpected events, and they either deal more overtly with food and diet or more abstractly with out abundance, in correspondence with the issue of finances and investments that we mentioned before.  Make the spreadsheets, use budget software, and do whatever it takes to get a handle of finances today.  Get your house in order as much as possible.

If you have not done your taxes, do them today and wrap that up.  “Things” are about to become very busy when Pluto stations retrograde in five days.

April 14, 2017 (Julian 104)

This site is called the “Irregular Oracle” because, well, I just cannot sustain the effort to post every day.  Some days, yes.  Most days, maybe.  Every day, absolutely not.

That said….

April 14, 2017 (Julian 104)

Sun joins Uranus in their annual meeting, both in Aries.  With Mercury and a number of other planets retrograde, all bets are off.  Expect surprises.  Also expect brilliant ideas; capture them if you can.  Play this weekend if you can, but be careful.  A Grand Fire Trine favors Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius, and air signs Libra, Aquarius, and Gemini do well also.  To everyone: watch your temper.

Mars joins Sedna, and Sedna is so new that this is difficult to interpret.  At least one source claims that Sedna is the “goddess of the victim.”  With an orbit of more than 10,000 years, Sedna will not budge during our lifetime nor move “much” in the next century.  (Which leads me to question its usefulness in prediction.)   But Mars does touch it today, and we suspect that might somehow be significant.

Mars is also quintile Neptune, and this can bring bright ideas to creatives, particularly poets, songwriters, photographers, and videographers.  Watch out for scammers and con-artists, because some of them will develop particularly ingenious ways to cheat people today.  Stick to the basics.  Have fun, and avoid “get rich quick” schemes.

Chiron triseptile North Node tells us that it would be wise to help someone anonymously without any hope of compensation in the future.  Just do something decent for someone, and do it without anyone else knowing who you are.
