June 21, 2017 (Julian 172) Summer Solstice + Mercury enters Cancer; LONG Moon void

June 21, 2017 (Julian 172) Summer Solstice + Mercury enters Cancer; LONG Moon void

Many (non-astrologers) consider this “the first day of Summer” and many calendars mark it that way.  That is true for UK / EU and points east (and EDT in the U.S.) but the solstice actually happened late YESTERDAY for most of the Western Hemisphere.  In either case, a long solar void yielded to a long lunar void (Moon v/c in Taurus) which ends today at 5:44 PM CDT.

Much of what we have to say was said in the past few days.  Moon is void most of today, Sun for today and the next two is in what horary astrologers call “too early to tell” and others call a “sign change boundary.”  The same is true for Mercury, and in both cases this means that you might need a do-over for projects started today.  Moon is still very old (in DOTM, or Dark of the Moon), and that is superb for buyers and getting “deals” *IF* it is something you really need rather than another item that sits in the corner unused.  Housecleaning and preparation are smart moves today.

Mars makes a single aspect, but it is a semi-square to Sedna (victims), and we think that today continues a pattern of dangerous days that has been with us this week, month, year, and before.  Be careful.

A smart use of today is to clean house, review and plan, and maybe have some (safe) fun.

June 20, 2017 (Julian 171) Summer Solstice at 11:25 PM CDT

June 20, 2017 (Julian 171) Summer Solstice at 11:25 PM CDT

A solstice or equinox point is enough to make a day interesting.  Technically, that happens on the 21st if you live in EDT or points east (EU / UK) but today if CDT or points west (including California, Alaska, and Hawaii).  Many have discussed solstice points, and we will not elaborate except to say Cancer begins here.  Cancer is usually a benevolent sign, but it CAN produce monsters (and an excellent example is Ariel Castro).  I have seen others, both in the news (Jodi Arias, O J Simpson) and personally.  I have also seen Cancerians who are benevolent people.  But, let’s be clear for anyone who thinks Cancer is always inherently benevolent: Cancer can (and does) produce monsters.

But for most of us, the Summer Solstice is usually benevolent (unless we overdo alcohol or other mood altering drugs or engage in other dangerous behavior).  The Sun is VOID today (something we do not discuss much, usually it is the moon v/c that we discuss most), and “things” taken on today may not last.

The Moon is in DOTM (Dark of the Moon), and that makes this a VERY good time to tap into the intuitive side of ourselves, sometimes receiving messages from those who are no longer incarnate on earth, a time we usually associate with Halloween.  (But, it can, and does, happen at other times of the year.  This is one of them.)  One more thing: at almost the exact moment of the solstice, ever so slightly past, the Moon perfects a trine to Pluto in Capricorn and turns void, remaining void on Wednesday until 5:44 PM CDT.  Effectively, we move from a long solar void directly into a long lunar void.

Venus (Taurus) sextiles Neptune (Pisces), and that is associated with romantic adventures (which might not last, given other considerations, yet still be worthwhile due to fond memories).  What is not commonly know is that the Taurus / Pisces aspect can be real moneymakers sometimes, and this particular combination (Venus in its home and Neptune in its home) is one that can lead to “genius level” in moneymaking or development of art.

If you are at all inclined to be a creative, take today to manifest your perhaps latent talents.  Even if today does not directly pay off in an obvious way, you will find you WILL reap benefits of some kind at some point later.  Do not give up too soon on your gift. (A lesson I need to hear myself from time to time.  I make no money from writing these forecasts, at least not yet.)

As we mentioned yesterday, Venus (as Inanna) is at the Third Gate.  This year, and this iteration of the cycle, the First Gate was associated with the election in France.  The Second Gate was associated with a terrorist bombing at a concert in Manchester, UK.  Mars is active with Outer planets / outer objects (mostly asteroids) all week, so we think that it could be dangerous for some people.  We urge you to be careful today (and tomorrow).

A number of disturbing and dangerous events have been reported in the news, but the one that concerns us most involves a Navy “Superhornet” fighter jet shooting down a Syrian plane, a response that came after “the [Syrian] SU-22 jet dropped bombs on Sunday near American-backed fighters combating the Islamic State.”  Our response was provoked, I have no doubt about that, but I am also worried that we may be teetering on the brink of a very “hot” war.

If you have read my predictions for at least a few months, then you know I wrote about this the day of the election, last November (2016).  Some have said they think that the market is a bit too high (what has been called “irrational exuberance” in the past), and I hope they are wrong but worry that they might be right.  A number of other astrologers have claimed that a war will be tied to the eclipse of August 21st.  In any case, I am a bit worried about this “Third Gate.”  So, again, be careful.  (And don’t steal any North Korea propaganda posters off the hotel wall.  They take that kind of thing rather seriously.)

But, let’s make the main point again: if you have any artistic (or moneymaking) inclinations at all, you should take the plunge despite the other indications.  This may not take you where you expect, but chances are good that you will like results anyway, despite the fact that they may be unexpected or in a different direction.  Write character sketches of people you know for that novel you keep meaning to write, draw a diagram of the way the parts of your life fit together, (or not) write a poem about the most important person, or people, in your life or whatever else might capture your fancy.  Do an internet search for ideas if you must.  <We have other comments on this day at Weekly Forecasts>

As long as it is not dangerous, be willing to take a risk and do something a bit different (and artistic).

May 24, 2017 (Julian 144) Saturn quincunx Sedna; Taurus Moon Turns Void

May 24, 2017 (Julian 144) Saturn quincunx Sedna; Taurus Moon Turns Void

If you have read my earlier forecasts this week, and the news, then you know we are in a dangerous period.  My original hunch (based on aspects) was that it would occur on Tuesday and involve EU / Middle East.  The explosion at the concert in the UK, precisely the kind of thing that “came to me,” actually occurred on Monday and involved the UK (and Middle East).  I have said before, and say again, that I think this entire week is dangerous.  I stand by that prognostication and hope that I am wrong.  As I said previously, I would rather be “wrong” and not see loss of life than the other way around.

That said, the big news today is the perfection of Saturn quincunx Sedna.  Since Saturn is retrograde, we say this a few months ago (in Saturn direct motion) and will see it again in a few months (in direct motion).  From a “zoomed out” long term perspective (years, decades, and centuries), this is the most important aspect this year (although arguably Saturn trine Uranus is a rather persuasive runner up).

What does it mean?  Well, it is not very “pretty” as Southern ladies I know might say (watch the old movie “Steel Magnolias” to get what I am saying).  In fact, it is downright “ugly.”

Sedna is so new to us that it is very difficult to interpret, having been discovered in 2003.  With a 10,500 year orbit, it represents an entire new class of objects (as well as a shift in our collective consciousness, much as the discovery of Uranus did in the late 18th century).  So, what does it mean?

More than a few of us are scratching our heads about it, and more than a few astrologers are ignoring it.  After all, with a 10,500 year orbit, it could be treated the same as a fixed star (and probably should be).  Any meaningful changes in position / interpretation will come after we are all dead and gone.  Sedna is located between 17 and 18 Taurus, and can differ slightly in only the fractions of the degree it occupies.

The short version of the “meaning” of Sedna is that she is the Inuit (if unfamiliar to you, think “Eskimo”) Goddess of the Victim.  The story is very unpleasant, characterized by an unpleasant marriage built on lies and deceit followed by a painful death at her father’s hands (that is a really bad choice of words; he cut her fingers one by one, leading to her death by drowning).

Saturn we all know, but here is a short recap: Saturn (Roman) was also known as Kronos (Greek) and is the basis for “Father Time” in English stories and the “old year” with the sickle at New Year’s Eve celebrations.  Physically he represents bones (or the superstructure of a building), is tied to Capricorn and the 10th house (of careers), and is very much about the status quo and (like Vesta) “doing things the way we have always done them.” Saturn is currently in late Sagittarius, the sign of foreign travel, law, universities, and “higher thought.”

A quincunx, to review, is an aspect of disharmony that results in the ultimate in miscommunications.  The signs that house the planets differ in quality (Cardinal, Fixed, or Mutable) and element (Fire, Earth, Air, and Water) and everything else.  It is the kind of “connection” that is really the ultimate disconnect.

I hate to say it, but I think this aspect tells us that the victims of the bombing will not receive justice.  We might THINK that they will receive justice, but like any miscommunication this will turn out to be “not quite true.”  Some other events must happen first.  About a year or so from now, when Saturn makes it to 17 Capricorn, we might finally see the truly responsible parties brought to justice.  But the trip involves Saturn (time and difficulties) and Sedna (Victims, and people without choice).  It will not be easy.

In fact, this aspect is saying that, collectively, we will have to take some hard medicine.  Doing what needs to be done to halt suicide bombers and similar people will involve harsh tactics that none of us want to think about.  The path forward is more difficult than many of us imagine.  Cherish your rights; much blood has been spilled to protect your freedoms, and threats to our freedoms seemingly never stop.

A few of you are asking, again, BUT WHERE IS TODAY’S FORECAST?  Well, this is such an important day in certain ways (seeking justice for the victims), that I would argue you “just read it.”  But here are the more short term (i.e. the “lights” or Sun and Moon) aspects and analysis.

First off, Moon in Taurus goes void of course at 2:07 PM CDT.  (12:07 PM PDT; 3:07 EDT; 8:07 PM in London).  All bets are off until tomorrow morning, and give the other aspects, I think that Saturn (father time, the “reaper” of traditional astrology) and Sedna (Victims) make this an extra dangerous void.  Watch your temper.  Avoid dangerous people, places, and things, and avoid being one yourself.

It is a day full of irritations and a tendency to remember people who have caused you harm.  Be careful with this; it can lead you down the wrong road today.  You might need justice, but today is better for “doing your homework” rather than taking action.

Keep in mind that the Moon could be viewed as forming a (VERY loose) yod with Jupiter (Libra) and Saturn (Sagittarius).  That means you may face a decision today, and it may be a rather difficult one.

Prior to the void you CAN accomplish SOME things, but we are in Dark of the Moon (DOTM) and the New Moon is tomorrow.  That means the most important accomplishments today involve “house cleaning” and discarding that which is no longer needed or helpful, taking into our recommendations regarding temper.  Do not throw it (or them) out because you are angry.  The anger might help stir you to action, but make certain that your thinking is clear and legitimate.

I think that, oddly, a handful of sculptors somewhere “out there” can produce some amazing work today, particularly if it is something that honors the memorial of those who have gone before us, particularly anyone who has been a victim.

May 23, 2017 (Julian 143) Venus as Innana at the Second Gate

May 23, 2017 (Julian 143) Venus as Innana at the Second Gate

While I would like to characterize myself as an unblemished perfect oracle, that just ain’t so.  I make mistakes, and I do not claim otherwise.  That said, I think that I had another near miss with my forecast for yesterday, May 22, 2017 (Julian 142) The Quiet Before the Storm.  In that forecast, I offered that I thought Monday would be “quiet” and that Tuesday would be dangerous; indeed, the rest of the week looked (looks) dangerous.

But, I got it wrong.  An explosion at a concert in the UK proved me wrong in a spectacle of falsifiability in action that I think that Karl Popper might have liked.  Monday was not safe at all.  If the rest of the week is quiet, I will be even “more wrong.”  (But, I would rather be wrong than see more loss of life.)

In passing, while reblogging, I came across this article: Venus as Innana at the Second Gate.  It is a bit abstract though maybe not too much so.  In summary, when Venus precedes the Sun as a “Morning Star,” it was called “Lucifer” (light bringer, or bringer of the dawn) by the Romans.  (Sound familiar?  A bit like “Lucifer Morningstar“?  See, also: Temptation is the Philospher’s Stone)

Here is what I find interesting: during the current cycle, beginning when Venus stationed direct earlier this spring (something that happens about every eighteen months as part of a larger cycle), when Venus “reached” the “first gate” (Moon conjunct Venus caused the “light bringer” to be temporarily eclipsed and, therefore, invisible), the first part of the French election occurred that heralds major changes in France and maybe in Europe.  That “gate” occurred with Moon / Venus in Pisces.

The second gate occurred on Monday (yesterday) in Aries (a sign associated with many things but particularly war).  Aries is ruled by Mars (very active with the Outers this week, and the Outers herald generational level change as opposed to individual changes), and Uranus (explosions and revolutions and major changes typically unforeseeable by most, even including astrologers) is in Aries.  One more time: Uranus is in Aries (and has been for a few years and will continue for a bit longer).

I think this Second Gate (I am now using it as a proper noun rather than simply an enumeration) signaled an event like the explosion.  Six more gates remain (if I am calculating correctly, but I am doing this in my head without the benefit of software), and that puts us into November (i.e. Scorpio) when the sequence shifts to something different (Venus conjunct Sun).  (If I have done the math wrong, somebody let me know, and I will adjust.)  This particular pattern of “gates” will end with a Sun / Venus conjunction in early January of 2018: “On January 9, 2018, Venus has a superior conjunction with the Sun at 18 Capricorn 57.”  (Someone remind me not to write these forecasts when I am this sleepy / “out of sorts.”)

Going a bit further out on the limb (and sawing behind me?):  Maybe, just maybe, this series of gates associated with the final Uranus / Pluto square a few years ago might be called “The Tortured Path to Redemption.”  (OK, I stole that idea.  Click on the link and you will see where it came from.  But I think that maybe it applies to us all collectively at this moment as we ask each other, and ourselves, “who are you?”  And we know that how we answer that question is an integrity test.)

I think that this series of gates is a useful tool to tie together short term events (i.e. Moon / Sun / Mercury / Venus) to Mars (the “gateway” in my opinion) to the “Outers” (asteroid belt and everything past that).  (Even though Mars is technically an outer, sometimes it acts a bit more like an Inner, or personal, planet due to the relatively short two year cycle.  Mars is a bit of both, a hybrid or gateway.)

I also think that this Venus sequence (an eighteen month cycle that, over a period of years, carves a pentagram in the sky and probably the true source of all metaphysical pentagrams) ALSO ties the Inners (personal) to the Outers (Generational).  Said differently, it is the key (along with Mars) to understanding our “place” in the larger universe (or at least the Solar System).

I am left wondering what this particular sequence will bring us, especially given the “punctuation mark” of the Solar Eclipse on August 21st.  My guess is that, among other things, we will see a stock market (or bonds) upset in October or November of this year.  (Again, I hope I am wrong.)  But that is only a piece of a much larger puzzle.

People do not understand this, yet, but Donald Trump will prove to be a very important teacher.  I am not saying that everything he does will be “right.”  But even what he does “wrong” will bring VERY important lessons to anyone who is paying very close attention (and shutting out all the BS rhetoric floating around both sides of the political chasm).  Trump is a critically important channel to the future.

For those looking for today’s forecast, here is what I have to say: the danger is NOT over.   Moon joins Uranus (unstable), semisquares Neptune (agitation with lack of clarity), semisquares Mars (agitation and anger) and joins Mercury (also unstable).  Much of this occurs with Moon in Taurus, and when Taurus becomes unhinged all hell breaks loose (Hitler is the textbook example of an unhinged Taurus).

The security forces MAY be able to contain whatever is cooking “out there,” and we all hope for that.  Mars is VERY active this week, squared Neptune on May 11th and will oppose Saturn on May 29th a few days after the Gemini New Moon on May 25th.  Tuesday, Mars forms TWO biseptiles (karma and a glimpse of the future): (1) Juno (trust, wives, sisters, daughters, mothers and similar female roles, but especially TRUST) and (2) Astraea (law, lawyers, legal system, and any similar forms of formal disputes).

We talked about Pluto square Pallas (which perfects today) and how dangerous that is.  Pallas is a warrior goddess who was born fully formed and covered in armor.  Pluto is the God of the Underworld (and death).  I bet you can do the math about what happens when those two get in a fight!  (Squares, and related aspects, are a type of fight.)  The best you can hope for is an insight that is nearly blinding and so transformative that you might feel as if you have somehow been reborn.  (Oddly, this sounds almost Uranian / Promethean.)

We think that Mars / Pluto triseptiles (or the other Mars / Pluto Seventh Harmonic aspects: septile and biseptile) can be particularly dangerous.  The Pulse Club Shootings by Omar Mateen (Astrodatabank and Astrology in Crime) coincided with a Mars / Pluto Septile that we forecast thus:  “Today [June 11, 2016] has Mars Septile Pluto, the aspect of karma for both warrior planets. A very smart thing to do with this is to do something for a disabled veteran you know (or for disabled veterans in general). This will benefit you in important ways that you cannot see yet.”  Mateen was a person (Scorpio Sun / Taurus Moon!) who was angry and disenfranchised by those around him.  Many have said he had a mental health disability.  He was also an experienced security guard (warrior) who was licensed and skilled with firearms.  (“Gun control” would have been utterly useless in this case.  He had the proper training and licensure that we would expect of police or security guards!)

Little has been made of an important point: a kind word by the right person that night might have foreclosed the horrific events of June 11, 2016 in Orlando, Florida.

We think a similar kind of thing is driving events his week.  The kind word to someone you know who “is not doing well” may not only be the decent and “right thing to do,” it just might save lives.

We know, also, that some people cannot be reached.  What matters is that you try to make a difference by being helpful instead of damning someone, maybe unintentionally including yourself.

Last comment(s): clean house and avoid dangerous people, places, and things!  (And if the GPS in your Mercedes Benz starts flickering, take some time to stop and smell the roses or maybe visit with the horses.)

April 27, 2017 (Julian 117) Mars Sesquiquadrate Pluto

April 27, 2017 (Julian 117) Mars Sesquiquadrate Pluto

Lunar aspects are mostly in Taurus and mostly “unremarkable” as physicians sometimes write in their notes.  Moon (Taurus) sextiles Venus (Pisces) at 9:20 PM CDT and moves into Gemini 20 minutes later.  We note that this is late in the evening for most people in the Western Hemisphere (except maybe PDT), and is early in the morning for EU / UK.

We also note that this is a useful window for creatives despite it being a lunar void.  Write it down or capture it somehow and know that you may have to tune it or adjust it later to turn it into a masterpiece.  On the other hand, this is a terrible time to sign contracts or make practical commitments.

Outers are mostly quiet EXCEPT Mars sesquiquadrate Pluto.

As we mentioned in previous posts, this is part of a Thor’s hammer pattern, and we think that makes for dangerous “people, places, and things.”  Avoid those, and avoid being one of those yourself.  But do know, also, that you might can accomplish much, especially if you can avoid the dangers of your own temper.  If possible, working alone during this period might be wise.

April 26, 2017 (Julian 116) New Moon in Taurus

April 26, 2017 (Julian 116) New Moon in Taurus

First: you may wish to check our blog: “New Moons Only.”  At NMO, we collect posts that strictly relate to New Moons.  Most are specifically addressed to the NM, but a few might be “day of” forecasts.  This blog such provide a significant number of different viewpoints and forecasts that you can find one that best fits your needs and perspective.

According to Cafe Astrology, “The NEW MOON occurs on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at 8:16 AM EDT.,” which is 7:16 AM CDT.  (Adjust according to your time zone.)  Since a number of in-depth analyses can be found at New Moons Only, we will only say that this NM provides an opportunity to examine matters of health, beauty, finances, or similar related topics.

Cafe Astrology also says this: “It’s time to “stop and smell the roses” and to become more aware of what makes us feel comfortable and secure. This is an excellent cycle under which to re-evaluate our relationship to money and possessions, as well as to discover what truly makes us happy and fulfilled.”  We agree and offer the classic rock music video below (“Grazing the the Grass”).  (If you are clicking the link some time after this week in 2017, keep in mind that Cafe Astrology updates this particular part of their site with whatever are the current forecasts.)

With a number of planets retrograde, a smart strategy is to look at old projects in these areasthat might be worth resurrecting.  Did you have a “New Years Resolution” that was unrealistic and failed?  Maybe you can adjust it, bring it into alignment with reality, and turn it into an important and successful personal change at this time.

We do reserve the right to do a “post hoc” (after the fact) NM analysis (though we prefer NOT to do those).

The following Full Moon (Moon in Scorpio) is May 10th, after Mercury turns direct but is still in the “shadow period” (until May 20th).  Each of these subsequent events are turning points where you can “tune” some project you have re-launched to make it better or more realistic or terminate it if it still is not working.

We note that Mercury (in Aries) is near Uranus (in Aries) and about to conjunct Uranus.  What does that mean?  It means that writing projects, news and journalism projects (and blogging), and other projects can benefit from a launch now.

We note a caveat: Venus (the ruler of Taurus, and therefore over this New Moon) is late in Pisces (29 Pisces) and void of course.  Some things that happen at this time may seem like “fate” and out of your control.  Others are not quite ready to launch and you will need to wait a few days (at least until Venus enters Aries on April 28th) or until after Mercury moves direct (after May 3rd).  Only you truly know what applies best in your situation, so use this guidance accordingly.

Mars is quite active at this time, forming sesquiquadrates with both Pluto and Jupiter.  Regular (and long-term) readers of Grandtrines will recognize this pattern: it is a Thor’s Hammer.  Mars is at the apex, and Mars with Pluto / Jupiter is one of the worst possible combinations.  The pattern is a dangerous one, associated with dangerous people, places, and things.  We recommend sticking with the safest possible alternatives at this time, avoiding dangerous people, places, and things (and avoid being one of those), and maintaining the best possible relations with others.

One last point: Mars perfects both sesquiquadrates tomorrow, which may be even more dangerous than today.  (We live in dangerous times, but you already knew that.  Sometimes astrology confirms what we already know.)  Consistently pick the safe option here!

A Grand Trine is present (Mercury / Uranus in Aries, North Node in Late Leo / Early Virgo, and Saturn in Sagittarius.  Some people, notable fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) and maybe air signs (Libra, Aquarius, Gemini) will have important opportunities at this time.

Lunar aspects are fairly ordinary, but you may feel a sense of urgency about 8 PM CDT and frustration about 10 PM CDT.  Whatever you are working on, finish it as early in the day as you can or defer it until tomorrow.

Outers are interesting.  Mars binovile Neptune can favor scammers OR it can give the “marks” a glimpse into what is “really going on” and how to handle it.  Mars novile Eris can, similarly, provide an insight into some aspect of “chaos” in our life and maybe how to handle it.  Pay attention; these messages are important.

Moon joins Uranus then Mercury today making this an excellent day for writers and communicators, particularly those taking a look at old projects put on hold.  A trine to Saturn near 5 PM CDT starts a void period before Moon enters Taurus near 9 PM CDT.  Once in Taurus, the Moon will not change signs again before the New Moon, and this means we are in “Dark of the Moon” until about 7 AM CDT on Wednesday.  The “Veil Between Worlds” becomes thin and our intuition becomes heightened.  Pay attention to seemingly random details and glitches at this time.  Casual coincidences might be important messages.  The New Moon will bring important new opportunities.

Outers are busy, and Mars sesquiquadrate Juno brings an urgency to trust issues and brings them to the forefront.  Male / Female conflicts may erupt.  Pluto binovile Pallas can bring important insights to those involved in intelligence agencies, military, and other “martian areas” or areas involving conflicts.  Keep your eyes open.
