2020-05-01 : Beltane; Moon v/c at 11 AM Central (take a day off); Sun septile Neptune; Helio Uranus trine Astraea

Summary

First, to those readers who celebrate Beltane (or MayDay): Happy Beltane!

Beltane is associated with a “Cross Quarter Day,” each of those associated with the 15 degree point (middle) of each of the four fixed signs: Taurus (Beltane), Leo, Scorpio (Halloween or Samhain), and Aquarius (varies, but typically Valentine’s Day).  Latin cultures celebrate Cinco de Mayo, which is actually closer to (or the same as) the 15 degree point.  Some years, the fifteen degree point is on the fourth, now also celebrated as a holiday honoring Star Wars (“May the Fourth Be With You”)

Also celebrated near this time is Wesak, a holiday based on the Full Moon at this time (Moon in Scorpio opposite Sun in Taurus).  Buddhists, and those who live in predominantly Buddhist nations, honor this day.

Slightly past 11 AM Central (1100 CDT), Leo Moon moves void of course and remains void until past midnight, making this an excellent day to “take off.”  Exactly what that means during a pandemic in which “shelter at home” orders have expired in many states in the United States is uncertain.  But, during the void, Moon will form quincunx aspects (the aspect of “false hopes” and miscommunications) with Jupiter and Pluto (both in Capricorn).  These can lead to some unpleasant experiences from 5 PM (CDT) to past sunset (until about 9 PM CDT).  If you are expecting a fun time at a movie or restaurant, a distinct possibility exists that you may be disappointed.

And, just because the moon is v/c for most of the day does NOT mean the day is “quiet.”  Some of us are still reeling from the Mercury / Uranus conjunction yesterday (along with the impact of Vesta / Eris).  Today has ANOTHER Eris aspect, Juno quinundecile Eris at 3:54 AM Central (0354 CDT), and we find that rather difficult to interpret.  This is a sufficiently abstract aspect that we resist the temptation to address it.  Regardless, expect important news to break overnight, something that could involve a betrayal and chaos resulting from that betrayal.  This might be a good time to follow a “hunch” about any matter that could involve safety.

  • Saturn sesquiquadrate Hygeia: authorities push harder (if that is even possible) for resolution of health and healthcare issues (presumably Covid19, but possibly other issues as well).
  • Helio Uranus trines Astraea: a breakthrough for legal matters (and lawyers), but almost certainly in the form of a surprise or unexpected result.  If you have anything to do with the legal system, including a pending matter, expect a breakthrough today, a seismic shift.
  • Sun septile Neptune: the moon might be void (and none of Mr. Shawvan’s “Opportunity Periods” today), but some people will have remarkable experiences.  Poets, photographers, videographers, and musicians might have a “mysterious coincidence,” such as a “chance meeting,” that springboards them into a masterwork.
  • Moon is profoundly “busy” despite the void (which is calculated using Ptolemaic, or traditional, aspects): two quadrinoviles; three members of the Septile family (think “remarkable coincidences”); two sesquiquadrates (URGENCY!) and others.  “Things” may not turn out as you have expected, and some disappointments may be had, but this could be a memorable day for the insights and “Aha!” moments you have, particularly if you are a Creative.
  • Mercury is also busy: six (6) aspects (tropical, geocentric) and also (by another method of calculation) six (6) aspects (heliocentric).  No matter how you look at it, Mercury is busy today and matters of communication and transportation are at the forefront.  As we always warn on such mercurial days: be careful regarding criminality.  (If it sounds “too good to be true,” then it probably is.)

Stay safe, and try not to take anything TOO seriously on this most “unusual” day.

2020-04-12 : Moon void of course most of the day then enters Capricorn; Mercury squares the Nodes

Summary for April 12, 2020

The key take-away for today is this: much of the day is spent with Moon void-of-course in Sagittarius. Even so, outers (planets, asteroids, “calculated points”) are active and have messages for us. Maybe the most important one is that Mercury squares the nodes, only a few days after leaving Pisces (NOT a good position for transiting Mercury although it can produce poets and musicians in a natal chart).
Mercury squaring the nodes tells us of a shift, a “karmic” shift, and we need pay close attention to the messages that come to us today. In the end, some information may be missing, and projects might need to be redone, but the messages are important nevertheless. Short trips and errands, and the events that happen on them, may also reveal important information to us. Keep your eyes open.

Daypages

Marsout

Early morning hours (@ 0451 CDT), before Moon moves v/c, finds Pallas (and asteroid) trine Sedna (an outer planet object whose status is in question but probably is a dwarf planet). Pallas has an orbital period of 4.62 Earth years while Sedna has one of over 11,000 years. This trine is not particularly rare but also not particularly common, with two trines occurring within each 4.62 year orbit.
Pallas Athena is a warrior goddess, similar to Mars in some ways but reputed in mythology to have sprang fully formed, with armor, from her father’s head. (Zeus, also known as Jupiter, was her father.)
So, what does this mean? Sedna is a sea goddess, and Pallas a warrior goddess. No doubt they do not give up their secrets easily, but we think something important involving shipping and the security of ocean-going vessels will occur today.

Mars biquintiles the North Node shortly after (0657 CDT, 6:57 am) the Moon / Sun trine, and the beginning of the void. What does that mean? We are not certain, but we think that, for certain people, a break-through idea might present itself regarding an important problem. Action is necessary, keeping in mind that it might have to be re-done or tuned later. Proceeding carefully, take action despite the void.
Pallas trines Hygeia, (11:05 am CDT) and issues of healthcare and trust come to the forefront. My guess is that this might involve protective gear (aka “PPE”) and healthcare providers needing to be able to trust the supply chains and non-clinical managers who should be providing the protective gear.
Uranus undeciile Vesta brings a subtle upset to certain traditionalists who MIGHT can learn a lesson from the event, IF they are paying attention.
AFTER the Moon moves into Captricon, Vesta sextiles Black Moon Lillith. Per Darkstar Astrology, the “Dark Goddess archetype as a whole is associated with sex, death, obsession, addiction, transformation, resurrection, magic, the occult and the taboo.” While Vesta is primarily concerned with traditions, it also represents prostitution (or sexual favors or ?). With these two in sextile, all bets are off, but be certain that this is another hot night for “romance” for certain people.

Sunout

This day has a number of undecile family aspects in it; we will not interpret those. Other aspects were previously discussed in Marsout leaving: (1) Mercury square the Nodes and (2) Sun semisquare Vesta.

We mentioned Mercury square the Nodes previously, and it is likely the most important aspect of the day, the “mover” that activates all the other aspects.
Sun semisquare Vesta implies that certain attributes of the Lilith / Vesta sextile might have a coercive quality to it, or, at best, a sense of urgency, as in “quick, they’ll be back soon!” Alternatively, the kids might wake up at a rather inconvenient time.

Moonout + SunMoon

These are complicated and numerous; we will leave the interpretation for another. The Sun / Moon trine is a pleasant way to start the void.

2020-03-30 (March 30, 2020): Brilliant Ideas, but Warning Flags (Go Slow!)

As some of you know, I am restarting my astrology blogs.  Part of the process is reviewing what does, or does not work.  For now, I will play with daily forecasting (not necessarily every day) and see where it takes us.

March 30, 2020

Most astrologers are writing off this day as a lost day due to a particularly long Moon v/c (“void of course”).  One reader who reblogs my work calls it “moon void off course.”  That is not consistent with what almost everyone calls it, paradoxically making it brilliantly consistent with the problems that Moon v/c typically brings.

Moon v/c: Always “Bad”?

I first started watching Moon v/c periods in 1987, and I spent quite a bit of effort learning about them from an experiential viewpoint.  Yes, they tend to bring problems.  But, guess what?  SOMEtimes they can be useful. (And, if you do not believe me, just ask Lee Lehman and Jim Shawvan.)

Changes in Tools; Changes in Insights

Recently (March 28/29, 2020), I had a bit of a back and forth with another astrologer, presumably a younger one by his style of analysis and writing.  He was arguing that prohibitions against reading an horary chart with an ascendant in the first three degrees or last three degrees no longer applies because of the accuracy with which we can construct charts using 21st century digital computers and astrology software.

He had interesting points.  Those of you more familiar with my work know where I stand based on an article that I wrote about eight to ten years ago (2010 to 2012): “Maybe it isn’t a point after all…. (aka Fractal Astrology)

The Three Degree Rule and the Anaretic Degree

While I still adhere to the three degree rule (and more, if you have read my recent pieces “March 18th through 19th of 2020: Sun in Pisces, Anaretic and Saturn in Capricorn, Anaretic” and “Grand Conjunction versus the Anaretic Sextile Prior to Vernal Equinox.”), I acknowledge that his point is worth exploring.  However, I go in a bit of a different direction.

Patterns, Higher Order Aspects, Asteroids, and Special Calculations

Specifically, I explore (1) patterns that were not as easily identified and explored before the advent of current generations of software and (2) higher order aspects that were not explored as much as traditional aspects, likely due to the same kinds of issues involving computing power.  Two additional explorations are worth mentioning: (1) asteroids (not visible to many prior to the twentieth century) and (2) specialty calculations (midpoints, Arabic parts, and similar).  (For example, consider this Marsout Calendar for the Month of March, 2020.)

For some of you, that is a LONG introduction.  But my point is worthwhile: despite the long void, this day can be useful And, I plan to show you precisely how by exploring the calendar features available in SolarFire 9.  (Other tools no doubt have similar features, this just happens to be the tool that I use for most, but not all, of my work.)

Sunout Pages

First let’s explore the Sunout pages.  .In particular, here are the Sunout aspects (Does not include lunar aspects and is limited regarding asteroids) first for the week (simply for your convenience if you decide to explore the aspects for later this week) and specifically for March 30, 2020:

Sunout March 30, 2020

Notice that we see (1) Mars enter Aquarius (at 1443 CDT) after (2) Mercury Septile Uranus (at 1232 CDT) but before Mars bidecile Chiron (at 2249 CDT).  All of this happens after Moon in Gemini moves v/c (at 1008 CDT) and before the Moon moves into Cancer (on March 31st).

What does it mean?

We have seen a day similar to this before, February 3, 2016.  Before you read any further, a useful exercise is to try to recall what you were doing in early February of 2016 and list any useful ideas or activities from that time.  If you have a personal calendar, check it.

Two Curious Articles

Most of that date is not particularly remarkable.  But, consider these two articles: (1) actually, a series of articles from “Hackaday,” and (2) an article from Forbes on “Why Washington Is Making It Easier For Rich Foreigners To Buy U.S. Real Estate.”

Summary of Aspects

We note that day (1) had a bidecile; (2) had significant Mars activity; and (3) had Chiron activity.  The Moon was NOT v/c and was in Sadge (“foreign relations” and “higher order thought”).  The two days are NOT identical, or particularly close, but may be close enough for our purposes here.

The Hackaday page covers a number of seemingly curious, maybe frivolous, topics that, potentially could prove quite important.  Why would “drone races” be important?  How about development for combat usage?  Why would undersea server farms be useful?  They tell us: current server farms are beginning to encounter serious cooling issues, and the cold temperatures of the floor of the ocean might solve that issue.

The Forbes article is cautionary.  It is a “heads up,” an alert to possible problems brewing.

NOW, I offer this: both of those things are true for Monday, March 30, 2020.  Mercury septile Uranus can give us brilliant breakthroughs, but the Moon v/c tells us that more research and tuning will be necessary.

Mars entering Aquarius (there are those “First Three Degrees” again!) tells us that we will be tempted to act, BUT SHOULD WAIT.  And Mars bidecile Chiron throws a red flag: the Moon v/c tells us to wait (more information is coming), and we should do that.

Mr. Shawvan does not indicate that this particular Moon v/c is an “Opportunity Period.”

We could stop there.  But, we will not.  We have more to say.

Moonout Pages

Moonout aspects almost always present so much detail that interpretation is difficult.  We will touch the surface of the topic.

And, it is here that we see the counter-argument of the other astrologer: the information available via improvements in computing power let us address issues we did not explore when we were effectively limited to the “Ptolemaic aspects” that define when the void begins.

Moonout Week

Here is the week for “Moonout” aspects.  They are so numerous that, undoubtedly, some days will not contain all of them.  (We leave that as an exercise for the ambitious.)

2020-03 Week 14 Moonout

Moonout March 30, 2020

A Warning

We see only a single “Ptolemaic aspect” here: the Moon / Neptune square that begins the void.  Let us be clear: Moon square Neptune can be dangerousAvoid driving or operating heavy equipment at that time if you can.  Best to take a break and relax, daydream, during the half an hour or so where it dominates.

More Warnings

But, digging into the aspects, we learn much useful information.   Earlier, before the void, we had a pair of sesquiquadrates (Mars and Saturn!).  Again, we should be on guard if we are awake during these early morning hours.  For the UK and EU, if we did not have quarantines and similar restrictions, this would be rush hour.  Tempers could flare.  Stay away from dangerous people, places, and things.  The semi-square with Uranus (at 1151 CDT) repeats the message: avoid dangerous activities or being in situations that put you at risk.

However

However, if you avoid dangerous people, places, and things, today can be profoundly useful.  You will have flights of fancy.  Moon biquintile Jupiter (at 0813 CDT) tells us that.  Moon biquintile Pluto (at 0924 CDT) tells us that.  Moon quintile Chiron (at 0708 CDT) tells us that.  And, finally, Moon quintile Sun (at 1645 CDT) tells us that.  And, you might be tempted to ignore these ideas as “frivolous.”  Don’t!

The “Frivolous” Ideas That MIGHT Be Your Best Gifts Yet!

Those frivolous ideas, the ones like “drone races” and “undersea server farms,” WRITE THEM DOWN.  Let them slip past you, and you will lose a gift, maybe one of the more important gifts of your life.  Write it down.  Draw the pictures.  Tell a friend (and ignore the sesquiquadrate driven criticisms that they are certain to spew).  LOCK THOSE IDEAS IN!

Fleming and the Petri Dishes

The Moon v/c tells us that you might have to change or tune them later.  But, is that really a problem if they bring you a superb gift?  If Fleming had thrown out the petri dishes that had been contaminated by penicillin mold, we might not have developed antibiotics, or we might not have developed them for another century or two.  How many would have died?

In fact, they were nearly lost.

Open Your Eyes

Open your eyes, and you will see the opportunities.  Capture them.  Stay safe.  And, wait to act on your gifts until later.

Yes, the Moon is v/c today.  Yes, you need to be careful.

BUT, you can make this day count for something!

June 21, 2017 (Julian 172) Summer Solstice + Mercury enters Cancer; LONG Moon void

June 21, 2017 (Julian 172) Summer Solstice + Mercury enters Cancer; LONG Moon void

Many (non-astrologers) consider this “the first day of Summer” and many calendars mark it that way.  That is true for UK / EU and points east (and EDT in the U.S.) but the solstice actually happened late YESTERDAY for most of the Western Hemisphere.  In either case, a long solar void yielded to a long lunar void (Moon v/c in Taurus) which ends today at 5:44 PM CDT.

Much of what we have to say was said in the past few days.  Moon is void most of today, Sun for today and the next two is in what horary astrologers call “too early to tell” and others call a “sign change boundary.”  The same is true for Mercury, and in both cases this means that you might need a do-over for projects started today.  Moon is still very old (in DOTM, or Dark of the Moon), and that is superb for buyers and getting “deals” *IF* it is something you really need rather than another item that sits in the corner unused.  Housecleaning and preparation are smart moves today.

Mars makes a single aspect, but it is a semi-square to Sedna (victims), and we think that today continues a pattern of dangerous days that has been with us this week, month, year, and before.  Be careful.

A smart use of today is to clean house, review and plan, and maybe have some (safe) fun.
