2020-03-30 (March 30, 2020): Brilliant Ideas, but Warning Flags (Go Slow!)

As some of you know, I am restarting my astrology blogs.  Part of the process is reviewing what does, or does not work.  For now, I will play with daily forecasting (not necessarily every day) and see where it takes us.

March 30, 2020

Most astrologers are writing off this day as a lost day due to a particularly long Moon v/c (“void of course”).  One reader who reblogs my work calls it “moon void off course.”  That is not consistent with what almost everyone calls it, paradoxically making it brilliantly consistent with the problems that Moon v/c typically brings.

Moon v/c: Always “Bad”?

I first started watching Moon v/c periods in 1987, and I spent quite a bit of effort learning about them from an experiential viewpoint.  Yes, they tend to bring problems.  But, guess what?  SOMEtimes they can be useful. (And, if you do not believe me, just ask Lee Lehman and Jim Shawvan.)

Changes in Tools; Changes in Insights

Recently (March 28/29, 2020), I had a bit of a back and forth with another astrologer, presumably a younger one by his style of analysis and writing.  He was arguing that prohibitions against reading an horary chart with an ascendant in the first three degrees or last three degrees no longer applies because of the accuracy with which we can construct charts using 21st century digital computers and astrology software.

He had interesting points.  Those of you more familiar with my work know where I stand based on an article that I wrote about eight to ten years ago (2010 to 2012): “Maybe it isn’t a point after all…. (aka Fractal Astrology)

The Three Degree Rule and the Anaretic Degree

While I still adhere to the three degree rule (and more, if you have read my recent pieces “March 18th through 19th of 2020: Sun in Pisces, Anaretic and Saturn in Capricorn, Anaretic” and “Grand Conjunction versus the Anaretic Sextile Prior to Vernal Equinox.”), I acknowledge that his point is worth exploring.  However, I go in a bit of a different direction.

Patterns, Higher Order Aspects, Asteroids, and Special Calculations

Specifically, I explore (1) patterns that were not as easily identified and explored before the advent of current generations of software and (2) higher order aspects that were not explored as much as traditional aspects, likely due to the same kinds of issues involving computing power.  Two additional explorations are worth mentioning: (1) asteroids (not visible to many prior to the twentieth century) and (2) specialty calculations (midpoints, Arabic parts, and similar).  (For example, consider this Marsout Calendar for the Month of March, 2020.)

For some of you, that is a LONG introduction.  But my point is worthwhile: despite the long void, this day can be useful And, I plan to show you precisely how by exploring the calendar features available in SolarFire 9.  (Other tools no doubt have similar features, this just happens to be the tool that I use for most, but not all, of my work.)

Sunout Pages

First let’s explore the Sunout pages.  .In particular, here are the Sunout aspects (Does not include lunar aspects and is limited regarding asteroids) first for the week (simply for your convenience if you decide to explore the aspects for later this week) and specifically for March 30, 2020:

Notice that we see (1) Mars enter Aquarius (at 1443 CDT) after (2) Mercury Septile Uranus (at 1232 CDT) but before Mars bidecile Chiron (at 2249 CDT).  All of this happens after Moon in Gemini moves v/c (at 1008 CDT) and before the Moon moves into Cancer (on March 31st).

What does it mean?

We have seen a day similar to this before, February 3, 2016.  Before you read any further, a useful exercise is to try to recall what you were doing in early February of 2016 and list any useful ideas or activities from that time.  If you have a personal calendar, check it.

Two Curious Articles

Most of that date is not particularly remarkable.  But, consider these two articles: (1) actually, a series of articles from “Hackaday,” and (2) an article from Forbes on “Why Washington Is Making It Easier For Rich Foreigners To Buy U.S. Real Estate.”

Summary of Aspects

We note that day (1) had a bidecile; (2) had significant Mars activity; and (3) had Chiron activity.  The Moon was NOT v/c and was in Sadge (“foreign relations” and “higher order thought”).  The two days are NOT identical, or particularly close, but may be close enough for our purposes here.

The Hackaday page covers a number of seemingly curious, maybe frivolous, topics that, potentially could prove quite important.  Why would “drone races” be important?  How about development for combat usage?  Why would undersea server farms be useful?  They tell us: current server farms are beginning to encounter serious cooling issues, and the cold temperatures of the floor of the ocean might solve that issue.

The Forbes article is cautionary.  It is a “heads up,” an alert to possible problems brewing.

NOW, I offer this: both of those things are true for Monday, March 30, 2020.  Mercury septile Uranus can give us brilliant breakthroughs, but the Moon v/c tells us that more research and tuning will be necessary.

Mars entering Aquarius (there are those “First Three Degrees” again!) tells us that we will be tempted to act, BUT SHOULD WAIT.  And Mars bidecile Chiron throws a red flag: the Moon v/c tells us to wait (more information is coming), and we should do that.

Mr. Shawvan does not indicate that this particular Moon v/c is an “Opportunity Period.”

We could stop there.  But, we will not.  We have more to say.

Moonout Pages

Moonout aspects almost always present so much detail that interpretation is difficult.  We will touch the surface of the topic.

And, it is here that we see the counter-argument of the other astrologer: the information available via improvements in computing power let us address issues we did not explore when we were effectively limited to the “Ptolemaic aspects” that define when the void begins.

Moonout Week

Here is the week for “Moonout” aspects.  They are so numerous that, undoubtedly, some days will not contain all of them.  (We leave that as an exercise for the ambitious.)

A Warning

We see only a single “Ptolemaic aspect” here: the Moon / Neptune square that begins the void.  Let us be clear: Moon square Neptune can be dangerousAvoid driving or operating heavy equipment at that time if you can.  Best to take a break and relax, daydream, during the half an hour or so where it dominates.

More Warnings

But, digging into the aspects, we learn much useful information.   Earlier, before the void, we had a pair of sesquiquadrates (Mars and Saturn!).  Again, we should be on guard if we are awake during these early morning hours.  For the UK and EU, if we did not have quarantines and similar restrictions, this would be rush hour.  Tempers could flare.  Stay away from dangerous people, places, and things.  The semi-square with Uranus (at 1151 CDT) repeats the message: avoid dangerous activities or being in situations that put you at risk.

However

However, if you avoid dangerous people, places, and things, today can be profoundly useful.  You will have flights of fancy.  Moon biquintile Jupiter (at 0813 CDT) tells us that.  Moon biquintile Pluto (at 0924 CDT) tells us that.  Moon quintile Chiron (at 0708 CDT) tells us that.  And, finally, Moon quintile Sun (at 1645 CDT) tells us that.  And, you might be tempted to ignore these ideas as “frivolous.”  Don’t!

The “Frivolous” Ideas That MIGHT Be Your Best Gifts Yet!

Those frivolous ideas, the ones like “drone races” and “undersea server farms,” WRITE THEM DOWN.  Let them slip past you, and you will lose a gift, maybe one of the more important gifts of your life.  Write it down.  Draw the pictures.  Tell a friend (and ignore the sesquiquadrate driven criticisms that they are certain to spew).  LOCK THOSE IDEAS IN!

Fleming and the Petri Dishes

The Moon v/c tells us that you might have to change or tune them later.  But, is that really a problem if they bring you a superb gift?  If Fleming had thrown out the petri dishes that had been contaminated by penicillin mold, we might not have developed antibiotics, or we might not have developed them for another century or two.  How many would have died?

In fact, they were nearly lost.

Open Your Eyes

Open your eyes, and you will see the opportunities.  Capture them.  Stay safe.  And, wait to act on your gifts until later.

Yes, the Moon is v/c today.  Yes, you need to be careful.

BUT, you can make this day count for something!

June 13, 2017 (Julian 164) Moon in Aquarius + A Storm Begins

June 13, 2017 (Julian 164) Moon in Aquarius + A Storm Begins

Chances are good you have felt the Jupiter (station direct) and Neptune (station retrograde) weirdness for the past few weeks.  In traditional astrology, ALL of the matters ruled by Neptune (in modern astrology) are ruled by Jupiter.  So, no matter which system you follow, the message remains the same: “things” that are “ruled” by Jupiter / Neptune are, at a minimum, “shifting” now and for many they are simply a mess.

What are we talking about?  Quite a bit.  In modern astrology terms, (1) Jupiter is associated with higher education (typically colleges and universities), foreign travel and “foreigners,” law, courts, and legal matters, and sometimes extra-marital affairs (or other “infidelity”); (2) Neptune is associated with health and healthcare (particularly illness and hospitalization), poetry, lyrics, songs, photography, videography, alcohol & drug addiction, and sometimes criminality (usually petty crime) and deceit.

Mercury trines Jupiter (usually favorable) and forms, along with the Moon, a Grand Air Trine.  For writers, this should be a great aspect, but the issues mentioned (“slow” movement from our Earth bound perspective) might turn it all on the ear.  The same goes with anyone involved in communications or transportation or typical “air sign” activities.  Add Uranus in the mix and you have a “kite,” a pattern of special opportunity.

We think that clear cut “winners” and “losers” will emerge today.  We also think you will be able to tell which category you are in quickly.  “Things” will either go your way, fluidly, or you will encounter roadblocks, stop signs, and caution lights.  Keep your eyes open, and adjust accordingly.

Mercury also forms a square to Neptune, and this is notorious for problems for people who have addictions of any kind but especially alcohol or drugs.  If you are in recovery, you will need to be extra vigilant to avoid slippery “people, places, and things” and practice the HALT principle (do not get too hungry, angry, lonely, or tired).  If you attend support group meetings, this is a good time to avail yourself of those.

If you are NOT in recovery but maybe should be, this is a good week to take the plunge.

If you have mental health issues then you might need a “med adjustment” or some other help.  Do that this week.

This is an extraordinary day for anybody who is a poet or songwriter or interested in pursuit of those.  Take advantage of this special window if that applies to you.

Mars quintiles Eris, and that is bad for most people.  If you are the kind of person who creates chaos and maybe engages in violence, then the day might favor you.  For the rest of us, perfection of this aspect can favor those who we call “bad guys.”

Hygeia (health and healthcare) also perfects a sesquiquadrate (urgency) to Sedna (victims), yet another sign that today (or maybe this week) is dangerous.

Summary: avoid dangerous people, places, and things, do not abuse drugs or alcohol (or engage in other addictions), and consider spending some quiet time writing poetry or taking photographs.

Today is a mixed bag: some dangerous people might cause harm, and some brilliant and talented people will produce important gifts for the rest of us.

June 4, 2017 (Julian 155) Sun Square Neptune; Mars enters Cancer

June 4, 2017 (Julian 155) Sun Square Neptune; Mars enters Cancer

First, let us address the Moon.  Moon remains in Libra all day in the Western Hemisphere, but turns void at 3:55 AM until about 5:45 AM CDT.  In EU / UK, this void, marked by Moon square Mars, starts 9:55 AM until 11:45 AM (adjust for DST as necessary).  Mostly this is benevolent, but the square to Mars confirms much of what we will be discussing the remainder of this post.  You can read detailed analyses of the current lunar transits here.  (Please do note that those are CURRENT lunar transits if you are reading this post in hindsight, days, weeks, months, or years from the date of posting.)

Annual Event: Sun Square Neptune

Sun square Neptune, regardless of placements, almost always affects me, regardless of placements.  (This is an annual event, occurring in two different versions over the course of the year.  The other will be in Sagittarius, later in autumn.)  How and why that is true is a bit too personal, but I have publicly admitted that I am a Solar Leo, and the Sun is always extra important to you if you are one of those.

Many of you feel it, also.  For some people this is illness, and for others it is a brilliant insight into poetry or song or maybe religious faith or other spirituality.  I usually get sick, and this year it was smart enough to sneak up on me a few days early (preventing me from preparing for the ambush).

Mars Enters Cancer

Mars enters Cancer today, also.  Only people who actually have Mars in Cancer ordinarily benefit from this.  Mars in Scorpio or Mars in Pisces, in a natal chart, might do “OK” also.  The rest of us tend to not like it.  Either ugly family quarrels break out (an affliction to Cancer) or we feel our energy sapped, drained.  Again, not EVERYone gets zapped, but many of us do feel drained.  Cancer is one of the worst placements for Mars, said by the ancients (and traditionalists) to be in “fall.”  (You can still “get things done,” but martians of all kinds have difficulty now, and athletes tend to suffer misfortune if they “push too hard.”)

Outers

Outers perplex me.  Since I have been out of commission a few days, I could not write my forecasts.  I am not 100% “back,” yet, either.  But, I stick to my methods, and it looked to me like Friday was dangerous, and Sunday (today, June 4th) was dangerous but Saturday OK.  Not sure why I keep getting this “one off” error with the terrorists (and other bad guys).

Here is the summary:

(1) Friday: Mars forms an undecile with Sedna.  Undeciiles are still a bit unclear to me, but they tell me SOMEthing is happening.  Mars is martians: police, soldiers, intelligence agencies (and sometimes terrorists).  Sedna is about victims, among other things.  With a 10,500 year orbit, Sedna operates more like a Fixed Star, but clearly a potent one!  Martians? Victims?  What could possibly go wrong?

But the big terrorist act was in the UK on SATURDAY, not Friday.  Maybe it is what my old mentor taught me: an activating lunar event is needed.  Metaphorically, the outer planets load the gun and take aim, but a lunar or inner planet aspect is needed to “pull the trigger.”

The rest of Friday Outer Planet Perfections were all squares, and one was Mars Square Chiron, just in case anyone did not “get the memo” that Mars/Sedna sent.  Very ugly.

(2) Saturday looked more benvolent, and we even had a quintile (but, it was Chiron the wounded healer and Juno of Trust / Betrayal issues).  I can see how Saturday COULD turn ugly with Mars BiUndecil.  e Eris.  From that page, we have this passage: “Eris was not invited to a wedding so she chucked an apple marked ‘To the fairest’ into party for the vainest goddesses to fight over. Her rage at rejection and the need for vindication is what is blamed for the Trojan war. The side of her that is like Lilith is the fact that she was the uninvited guest, the disowned and exiled, the 13th fairy that cursed sleeping beauty. Finally Eris, like Lilith in the garden of Eden caused a hell of a lot of trouble with just one apple!”

(3) Sunday June 4th (today), looks ugly again like Friday. Vesta (traditions, “how we have always done it”) perfects a (karmic) triseptile with Astraea (law and legal).  Ceres (food, prosperity) forms a septile (karmic, again) with Eris (there is the goddess of discord, again).

Mars perfects hex-undeciles with Astraea then Juno, entering Cancer between the aspects.  So, again, I think today is dangerous.  But, then again, given my recent “one off” errors, you better lump in Monday and Tuesday as risky days, too.  Better safe than sorry.

Later This Week: Full Moon + Jupiter Stations Direct

Full Moon is June 9th, and Jupiter stations direct at that time also.  As long was we are in the “shadow” of the Jupiter retrograde, strife in foreign affairs (e.g. the controversy over the Paris agreement) will likely continue.  Ditto for problems in higher ed and the legal system.

May 11, 2017 (Julian 131) Void Moon in Scorpio enters Sadge + Mars Square Neptune + Mercury trine Saturn

May 11, 2017 (Julian 131) Void Moon in Scorpio enters Sadge + Mars Square Neptune + Mercury trine Saturn

Void since perfection of the Full Moon yesterday, Moon continues void this morning in Scorpio until it enters Sagittarius at almost exactly Noon CDT.  Moon quincunx Uranus (Aries) then Mercury (Aries) near sunrise (CDT) leads to mistakes and miscalculations just in time for rush hour.  Be extra careful, and make absolutely certain that you do not follow too closely.  A lunar trine to Chiron about 7:30 AM CDT brings issues of healthcare, education, mentors or some mix all to the surface.  Recognize them but do not take action until at least the void is over and preferably on another day.

Why avoid action today?  Mars squares Neptune, and nothing is as it seems.  Snake oil salesmen and con-artists prosper, and unless you are one of those, chances are good you will not.  Mercury trines Saturn which leads people to check every detail, dot every “i,” and cross every “t.”  Even the snake oil salesmen may not do so well.  Maybe we should say “salesperson” because chances are the person likely to blindside you will not meet with your expectations.

Any upsides for today?  Plenty.  First, creatives continue to prosper.  This day tends to favor photographers, videographers, and other visual artists more than yesterday.  Work done this morning may require re-dos but should be done anyway.  Often the genius of a work is found in a re-do or edit.  Today is that kind of day.

Exactly the same advice applies to anyone who examines details for a living.  But if you are proofreading in the morning, make certain you give it a second look in the afternoon or evening.  Something will leap out at that time that makes a difference, maybe a pivotal change.

Moon is waning, so removal of the unnecessary leads to prosperity.  Sun is in Taurus, so sculptors prosper.  Just do not work in stone or marble this morning; model it in clay in the morning then do the final work in stone later today.
